OUR PASTOR

Pastor Swinton

REV. DR. WILLIAM SWINTON, JR.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Rev. Dr. William Swinton, Jr. is the sixth child of seven children.  Influenced greatly by his fathers hard work and determination, Rev. Swinton, from an early age, had an innate desire to achieve.

He graduated from South Carolina State University in 1979 where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.  While at South Carolina State, he received the call to ministry.  After working in business for several years, Rev. Swinton felt the strong need to better prepare himself for pastoral ministry by attending Seminary.

Subsequently, in 1981, he enrolled at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1984 with a Master of Divinity degree.  Prior to completing seminary, Rev. Swinton met and married the former Cheryl Rena Felix.  From their union, they have been blessed with two sons, William Swinton, III (Trey) and John Cameron Felix Swinton.

Rev. Swinton has a thirst for knowledge particularly in the area of theology and ethics.  Therefore, he continued to study to show himself approved, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth as it says in II Timothy 2:15 by embarking upon the challenge of pursuing the Doctorate of Ministry degree from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey where he graduated in 1994.

Rev. Swinton has pastored Holy Trinity and Friendship AME Churches, both in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, as well as Bethel AME Church in Georgetown, South Carolina.  He is also a former adjunct professor for Voorhees College, Charleston branch.  Our preacher for today is a subscribing life member of the NAACP and a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  Rev. Swinton takes great pride in currently serving as pastor of Ebenezer AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina where he believes he is in the right place at the right time.
